A welcoming place for island kids to learn, create, and grow through dance and movement. During thoughtful, age-appropriate classes, dancers will develop strong movement foundations, creativity, confidence, musicality, and artistic expression in a positive and supportive environment.

All Classes Run for 8 Weeks

Creative Ballet/Jazz
Ages 2.5-5 years

10:00am-10:45am Sunday Oct 18th-Dec 6th
$100 - 8 Week Session
Location: Mayne Island Community Centre

In this playful and music inspired dance class, students will learn ballet and jazz traveling moves, turns, jumps and more! Dance steps will be taught through dress-up, imagination, and creative movement.

Jazz Dance
Ages 6-12 years

11:00am-12:00pm Sunday Oct 18th-Dec 6th
$120 - 8 Week Session
Location: Mayne Island Community Centre

In this high energy dance class, dancers will learn jazz technique including traveling movements, turns, jumps, kicks and more! Students will explore dynamic movements, develop confidence, express themselves through fun choreography, and have fun moving on the dance floor!

Acro Dance
Ages 6-12 years

12:00pm-1:00pm Sunday Oct 18th-Dec 6th
$120 - 8 Week Session
Location: Mayne Island Community Centre

Acro dance is a blend of gymnastic moves with artistic dance qualities. Students will learn strength and technique to safetly learn somersaults, handstands, cartwheels, and more! The class includes a mix of dance technique, strength training, flexibility and acrobatic movements.

Megan is a certified Acrobatic Arts Instructor and follows the Acrobatic Arts Curriculum.

FAQ

Attire

Students can wear anything that they are comfortable moving in. I recommend a t-shirt/tank top and leggings/shorts. They are welcome to wear leotards, tights, or dance skirts for fun, but it is not required.

Footwear

Students can wear socks or have bare feet. I recommend bringing socks for turns! Acro class is bare feet only.Students can wear ballet or jazz shoes for fun but it is not required.

Student Drop Off

All classes are student drop-off. Parents/guardians are asked to remain outside the studio during class to help dancers stay focused and engaged. You’re welcome to watch through the glass doors from just outside the studio.On the last day of class (December 6), parents and guardians are invited into the studio at the end of class for a special performance so the dancers can share what they’ve been working on!

About Megan

Hello! I’m Megan, the instructor behind Mayne Island Dance. I’m a dancer and educator who loves creating joyful and welcoming spaces where children can build skills, express themselves, and develop a love of movement.I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Simon Fraser University, a Bachelor of Education (Elementary) with a specialization in the Arts from the University of British Columbia, and a Master of Arts in Arts Education from Simon Fraser University. I’m also a BC Certified Teacher, a certified yoga instructor, and an acrobatic arts certified instructor.I have over fourteen years of experience teaching dance to children and youth in variety of settings including schools, dance studios, yoga studios, daycares, and community centres. My background in both dance and education shapes the way I teach, classes are playful and encouraging while also giving children opportunities to develop strong dance skills, coordination, creativity, confidence, and musicality.After moving to Mayne Island with my family, I am excited to offer a local dance opportunity for children in our community. I look forward to welcoming dancers of all experience levels to Mayne Island Dance and, most importantly, to get kids moving, creating, and having fun together.
